BOX DOODLES

A FISHEYE PRODUCTIONby Aaron Bieber

I have taken apart a fair number of cardboard boxes and drawn on the backs of them. I can't take credit for the idea; I was inspired by David Hoffman and the box doodle project. Once you get started drawing on boxes, you just don't want to stop. Everything you buy that comes packaged in a cardboard box is concealing a shape inspiration. Until you take the box apart you cannot know what it will become.

Don't steal my pictures! If for some reason these pictures have value to you, ask me first. I might even give you high-resolution ones. How about that? Questions and comments are also welcome.

Yes, that is supposed to be an ascot that he's wearing. My first exploration into using color.

This is one of my favorite doodles because the character is interacting with an actual feature of the box. In this case, the feature is a small window that was die-cut in the front of the box to display the toppings on the oven pizza it used to contain.

Perhaps this is a tribute to Edvard Munch, or perhaps it's just creepy looking. You be the judge.

This was the first box ever; the box that started it all. After viewing the box doodle project, I was off on my way. This used to be a Gardenburger box. Sun-dried tomato and basil flavor. Delicious.

I'm not sure which I like more, the Gardenburgers that used to live in this box, or the doodle that it has become.

I call it Big Mouth. Why? Because my friend wouldn't stop talking while I was drawing it.

Look at the size of his hat! When you have a monocle you are permitted to stare blankly at people. Remember that.
